The algorithm defined by GOST 28147-89 (fig. 17), has a length of 256-bit encryption key. It encrypts the information in blocks of 64 bits (such algorithms, called block), which is then divided into two blocks of 32 bits (N1 and N2). The N1 block is processed in a particular way, then its value is with the value of the block of N2 (addition is performed modulo 2, i.e. applies logical operation XOR-exclusive or), and then blocks are swapped. This conversion is performed for a certain number of times ("rounds"): 16 or 32, depending on the operating mode of the algorithm. In each round, performed two operations.
