Обретение политической независимости, широкое развитие движений за культурное самоопределение и оформление новой системы межгосударственных отношений сопровождались отходом от идеи универсальности и превосходства западной культуры. Восточные культуры стали не только предметом исторического или философского исследования, но и социологического анализа, направленного на выяснение их роли в современной жизни, в самоопределении и развитии освободившихся стран «третьего мира». Это потребовало изменения прежних принципов и подходов, которыми располагала социология культуры. В ней ослабевает влияние прежних структурно-функциональных методов, приспособленных к «нормальной», то есть западной культурной среде. Все большее значение приобретают компаративистика, сопоставляющая разные варианты и уровни куль-
туры, и проблематика взаимодействия культур, каждая из которых сохраняет свою самобытность.

Gaining political independence, the widespread development of cultural self-determination movements and design the new system of relations between States were accompanied by a departure from the idea of universality and the superiority of Western culture. Oriental culture became not only a subject of historical or philosophical research, but also sociological analysis aimed at clarifying their role in modern life, self-determination and development of the liberated countries of the third world. This required changes to the previous principles and approaches which have the sociology of culture. It weakens the influence of earlier structural-functional methods, adapted to the "normal", i.e. the Western cultural environment. Comparison of growing importance to map different versions and levels of cul-tours, and problems of interaction of cultures, each of which retains its identity.
