Изданная в 1997 году книга 'Великая шахматная доска' (The Grand Chessboard), главное произведения Бжезинского, подробно знакомит с долгосрочными интересами американской силовой политики. В книге содержится аналитически разработанный план геополитической установки Соединенных Штатов на 30-летний период.
В немецком переводе книга называется 'Единственная мировая держава' (Die einzige Weltmacht).
