Флаг символизирует два океана, омывающие берега Канады - Тихий и Атлантический - и заключённую между ними страну. Кленовый лист должен подчёркивать единство нации. Красный - цвет креста Св. Георгия, символизирует Великобританию. Белый - цвет французской монархии.
